CHICAGO Grain merchant Archer Daniels Midland Co. is waiving the fees it charges farmers to dry grain at three of its Midwestern corn processors as it seeks supplies to keep the plants running at optimum levels through a slow, wet harvest period, a spokeswoman said on Thursday.
GYPSUM An attempt to avoid a head-on collision with a cattle tractor-trailer rig sent a Peterson Farm grain truck into the ditch on east Kansas Highway 4 near Gypsum Wednesday afternoon. From the Peterson Farm Bros Facebook page:
* Marubeni Chief Financial Officer Nobuhiro Yabe said on Tuesday that the Japanese trading house has no plan to sell its U.S. agri-business unit Gavilon. * Marubenis agri-business profit in the April-September period fell from a year earlier due to a loss of 3.9 billion yen ($35.85 million) related to inappropriate recognition of Gavilons loss from its trade in Italy and Spain in the last business year, Yabe told an earnings news conference.
Dale Bartlett, a co-owner of Turner Grain Merchandising Inc., was sentenced Saturday to five years in state prison after a jury found him guilty of one felony count of writing a hot check. Turner Grains other co-owner, Jason Coleman, also had been charged with felonies in connection to $1.2 million worth of hot checks. But he committed sucide at the age of 44 in January while his charges were pending.

MINNEAPOLIS Pipeline Foods, a supply chain solutions company focused exclusively on organic, non-G.M.O. and regenerative food and feed, announced on Oct. 29 it has reached an agreement, in principle, to acquire the ancient grains and specialty products business of Organic Ventures. As part of the acquisition, Organic Ventures president, Rick Halverson, will join Pipeline Foods as an equity shareholder.

To distract myself from my many failings, I went to town for breakfast with friends where I ended up talking about truckers. Why not? God forbid Id start a discussion about politics in a public place. By and large, I like truckers. In my experience, theyre a cut above the general population in the quality and quantity of their stories.
A northwest Missouri farmer will be heading to federal prison after being sentenced for his role in the largest organic fraud scheme in American history. Federal prosecutors in Cedar Rapids, Iowa have announced that 52-year-old John Burton of Clarksdale was sentenced on Monday to 22 months in federal prison for his role in the $142 million grain fraud scheme, which federal prosecutors describe as the Field of Schemes.
Bunge Ltd. has a new CEO: agribusiness veteran Greg Heckman has more than three decades of experience in the agriculture, energy and food processing industries. Heckman joined the Bunge board in October 2018 and served as acting CEO since January 2019 until he was appointed to the position permanently in April. Heckman previously served as CEO of the Gavilon Group and in senior executive roles at ConAgra Foods.
A grain elevator caught fire and was destroyed in Whitman County Tuesday, KHQ reported. The Colfax Fire Department said crews were letting the large blaze near Winona, Washington, burn due to high winds as of about 6 p.m., according to KHQ. About 110,000 bushels of wheat were lost. Nearby rail cars also complicated the fire department response, KHQ reported.

PARK CITY, Kan. The organization that raises funds to help truckers and their families in the U.S. and Canada has announced its 12th annual holiday fundraising campaign. The Truckers Christmas Group said Monday it will begin the campaign Nov. 18. Aid nominations will open on the TGCO website beginning Nov. 21 and will close on Dec. 11.
Superior Ag has partnered with Central Kentucky Grain LLC., a grain storage facility located in Lebanon, KY. The business will continue to operate as Central Kentucky Grain LLC. All operations and personnel will continue, on an uninterrupted basis, serving growers throughout the region. Central Kentucky Grain CEO, Mark Boone, is continuing to lead the business following the creation of the partnership.
OMAHA, NEB. Scoular, an organic grain merchandising company, is expanding its portfolio of certified organic assets. The company recently secured organic certification for its facilities in Hershey, Neb., and Goodland, Kas. The company also has entered into an agreement with Jessen Wheat Company of Pine Bluffs, Wyo., to handle organic grain.
An article published 100 years ago in the Medford Mail-Tribune predicted motor trucks would replace railroads just as the automobile had pushed aside horses on city streets and country roads. Under the headline Will The Motor Truck Replace the Railroads(?) the article noted that farmers followed city dwellers closely in discarding horse and buggy for a passenger car, and were proving no slower in switching to trucks for hauling freight.
Freight shipments by all modes of transportation truck, rail, air, and barge within the US fell 3.4% in September 2019, compared to September last year, according to the Cass Freight Index for Shipments. For the index which tracks shipment volume of consumer and industrial goods but not of bulk commodities it was the 10th month in a row of relentless year-over-year declines:
